The 2nd Wicked Problems in Medical Education Conference:

Researching Medical Education for Innovative Solutions

About

The Wicked Problems in Medical Education Conference

This international conference is a forum for educators, researchers, and program leaders who are keen to expand their repertoire of systematic inquiries (also referred to research approaches). While these methodologies can be applied to all types of problem, we will focus on one particular complex problem in medical education that is challenging or impossible to solve: the wicked problem of teaching and assessing professionalism.

Upon completing a series of intensive research courses, participants will be equipped to tackle educational challenges by:

  • Employing diverse research methodologies to analyze and address complex issues in medical education
  • Formulating well-defined research questions designed to address both local and global educational challenges
  • Collaborating with communities of medical educators and education scholars to create meaningful change in medical education.

Guiding Principles for conference planning:

  1. We value Community. Thus, we will work to create a psychologically safe forum where all participants learn from one another through respectful conversations.
  2. We value Candor. Thus, we will facilitate evidence-informed and engaging conversations about issues that matter to participants.
  3. We value Equity. Thus, we promote non-hierarchical, asset-based education where teaching and learning are joint endeavors and a shared expectation.
